Friends of the Library members provide effort and time in a variety of tasks to support the Library such as:
  • - Weekly sorting of donated and discarded materials, including boxing books, scanning items for consignment resale, and evaluating special and unique items.
  • - Plan, prepare for, and host two Book Sales each year.
  • - Manage the Book Nook and Paperback Exchange by refreshing the inventory and keeping these collections neat and inviting.
  • - Provide monthly care of live plants throughout the Library.

The Friends of the Library hold a used book sale two times a year. The sale is held at the Lewisville Public Library, Glenmore Savage Community Room at 1197 W. Main Street, Lewisville 75067. Thousands of gently used books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, and more are on sale! Items priced $0.25 to $5.00. Cash, check, and card are accepted. Proceeds benefit the Lewisville Public Library.

Volunteers are welcome to assist with the book sale. Become a Friend and experience the excitement of this big event!

Shop gently used books and magazines year-round at the Friends of the Library Book Nook located on the first floor of the Library near the staircase. Adult and juvenile used books are arranged by genre or subject and are available for a nominal fee. Check out the Magazine racks for publications priced at only $0.10 per copy!

Based on the honor system, you may bring a book and/or take a book at the Paperback Exchange. Trade up to five paperbacks at a time from the Paperback Exchange located across from the Book Nook.

What We Do

The dedicated efforts and funds raised by the Friends of the Library are used to support many library initiatives and activities such as:

Plan and host semi-annual Book Sales to raise money and redistribute books into the community, including various non-profit organizations.

Manage the Book Nook to continue fundraising efforts throughout the year.

Sponsor the Welcome Baby! program with funds for the tote bags, books, and handcrafted stuffed animals given away to families with newborns to introduce them to library resources and early literacy concepts.

Sponsor prizes for the annual Adult, Teen, and Children's Summer Reading Programs.

Contribute funding to the Library's 2023 website redesign for enhancements such as the featured books carousel on the homepage.

Purchase furniture and equipment to enhance library services and programs such as lounge chairs and interactive play elements in the Children's Wing and a gaming console for Teen programs.

Provide volunteers to provide monthly care of live plants throughout the Library, even partnering with the Denton County Master Gardeners to re-pot 16 plants that had outgrown their containers, including the prized 50-year old Ponytail Palm in the 1st floor Bay Window area.

Sponsor library staff attendance at professional development conferences and seminars.

Sponsor library staff appreciation and recognition events including holiday celebrations like the staff Thanksgiving meal and gift cards for the monthly Library Leader Award.

Purchase public art pieces for the Library including The Alphabet Chair, Building Blocks, and Pages of Knowledge, as well as contribute funding to the 2024 Indoor Public Art Project at the Library.
