What We Do
The dedicated efforts and funds raised by the Friends of the Library are used to support many library initiatives and activities such as:
Plan and host semi-annual Book Sales to raise money and redistribute books into the community, including various non-profit organizations.
Manage the Book Nook to continue fundraising efforts throughout the year.
Sponsor the Welcome Baby! program with funds for the tote bags, books, and handcrafted stuffed animals given away to families with newborns to introduce them to library resources and early literacy concepts.
Sponsor prizes for the annual Adult, Teen, and Children's Summer Reading Programs.
Contribute funding to the Library's 2023 website redesign for enhancements such as the featured books carousel on the homepage.
Purchase furniture and equipment to enhance library services and programs such as lounge chairs and interactive play elements in the Children's Wing and a gaming console for Teen programs.
Provide volunteers to provide monthly care of live plants throughout the Library, even partnering with the Denton County Master Gardeners to re-pot 16 plants that had outgrown their containers, including the prized 50-year old Ponytail Palm in the 1st floor Bay Window area.
Sponsor library staff attendance at professional development conferences and seminars.
Sponsor library staff appreciation and recognition events including holiday celebrations like the staff Thanksgiving meal and gift cards for the monthly Library Leader Award.
Purchase public art pieces for the Library including The Alphabet Chair, Building Blocks, and Pages of Knowledge, as well as contribute funding to the 2024 Indoor Public Art Project at the Library.
